WB noted favorable geographical position of Kazakhstan

This year Kazakhstan's cooperation with the World Bank will mark 25th anniversary.

Kazakhstan Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev met with vice-president of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia Cyril Muller, reports.

During the meeting, the issues of introduction of a new model of economy in Kazakhstan within the framework of the President’s Address "The Third Modernization of Kazakhstan: Global Competitiveness" were discussed. 

The parties also reviewed the progress of joint projects in economic liberalization area, development of business environment and agrarian sector, increase of labor productivity, modernization of education and health systems through the prism of economic effect from each project. 

At the same time, Sagintayev and Muller discussed infrastructure projects planned for 2018, as well as plans for cooperation for 2020-2022.

Particular attention was paid to the transit potential of the country. The WB deputy head emphasized the advantages of the geographical position of Kazakhstan and noted that increasing the transit capacity of the country will influence the sphere of services, promotion of Kazakhstan goods and creation of new jobs. 

Kazakhstan has been a member of the World Bank since July 1992. Since 1992, the World Bank has provided loans to Kazakhstan to finance 46 projects. Currently, the portfolio of ongoing projects includes 6 projects. 

Presentation of the next country diagnostics of Kazakhstan is planned for June 15 at the World Bank session within the framework of the X Astana Economic Forum. 

Based on the results of the country diagnostics of Kazakhstan, the World Bank will develop a new Country Partnership Strategy for 2018-2023.
